Location in Texas: sparse in E, C, & SE TX; uncommon in Travis Co.
Form: grass-like herb; perennial.
Flowers: Mar-Aug (white, blue, purple).
Food
Aboveground parts – when young, was eaten as greens by the Cherokee (Blake 1953:12).
Gathering Season – spring (Blake 1953:12).
Medicine
Root – an infusion was drunk by the Cherokee to treat stomach discomfort after one has eaten too much (Blake 1953:12).
