Location in Texas: sparse in W & N TX.

Form: herbaceous vine; perennial.

Food

Leaves & stems – often eaten by Indians in northern California for greens, after being cooked either by baking or boiling (Chesnut 1902).

Roots – strong and used for tying (Chesnut 1902)

Notes – a small bunch of roots were kept in the pocket for good luck while gambling (Chesnut 1902).
